This bit was shot with two cameras, obviously. If you don't know, back then there were two ways to transition between the cameras: a cut and a dissolve (wipes may have been available but out of range of this discussion) The TD on this clip obviously had one camera set up one bank of the switcher, the other on the other bank and just threw the fader bar up and down to change cameras. It's funny I never noticed that in other clips but I'll bet it was a common practice mostly because it's easier than switching back and forth and in my experience low level engineers always take the path of least resistance. There might be another reason, but it's way too technical for this forum. Even so, it might be the real answer.
